XIX Commonwealth Games signing ceremony

8th March 2010

The XIX Commonwealth Games contract between SIS LIVE and Prasar Bharti was signed today in Delhi, India. Prasar Bharti awarded SIS LIVE the multimillion dollar contract back in October 2009, after an exhaustive tender process. Broadcaster Doordarshan, a subsidiary of Prasar Bharati, is the Host Broadcaster for the Games. SIS LIVE will provide all the production facilities and personnel to cover 17 different sports across 12 venues in Delhi, as well as the Games’ opening and closing ceremonies. Champions and Europa League Football - WE'RE THERE providing satellite uplinks for Canal+ for AC Milan v Manchester United, Porto v Arsenal and Bayern Munich v Fiorentina.  SIS LIVE has a three year contract with Canal+ to provide uplinks for the UEFA Champions League and Europa League.

Americas Cup, Valencia, Spain

12th - 14th February 2010

Two of the world’s largest yachts Oracle v Allinghi competed in a grudge match across the seas in the 33rd America’s cup. SIS LIVE provided RF links for three helicopters, hiring Skylink a fixed wing aeroplane, and provided all talkback and FX sound LIVE to the OB compound on race days.

6 Nations, 3 locations, tries and tribulations

5th - 6th February 2010

SIS LIVE provided OB facilities and crew for BBC Sports coverage of the Six Nations Rugby.  On Saturday 6th February we were in Ireland covering the Ireland v Italy match from Croke Park.  New generation OB trucks, OB 3 and OB 7, were at Twickenham for the second fixture of the day, England v Wales.  The England v Wales game was broadcast in HD and 3D and the 3D output was distributed to Odeon cinemas nationwide.  Sunday 7th saw us in Murrayfield, covering Scotland v France.

SIS LIVE provides a variety of satellite communications facilities at remote locations, including broadband connections, VoIP telephone networks and live audio contribution. We were in Chelmsford, Essex, with a mobile broadband vehicle supplying Services for BBC Radio 4’s Sunday Worship programme. The mobile broadband vehicle allowed radio 4 to deliver a live high quality audio programme direct to air. SIS LIVE has provided facilities for the weekly broadcast at various locations around the country.

Runners at the Great Winter Run in Edinburgh

Freezing temperatures and deep snow did not deter the 1,500 runners competing in the Great Winter Run. SIS LIVE were there with an OB unit, uplink truck and camera crew capturing every minute of the 4km course in Holyrood Park, Edinburgh.

Most Haunted Live

9th - 15th January 2010

From a desolate RAF base in the Norfolk countryside, SIS LIVE provided satellite uplinks and internet services for Most Haunted Live.

Live uplink facilities were supplied with a SIS LIVE vehicle. SIS LIVE’S internet services division supplied a mobile broadband vehicle for onsite comms and a broadband connection, at the remote site.

Even the horse and dog racing tracks that we transmit live pictures from could not escape the snow! If you look closely you can just about make out the Kinsley name on the photo and the greyhounds in their winter gear.

uPod Flay away in the Himalayas

ITN recently used their new uPod Micro uplink system to broadcast live pictures from Mount Everest as part of their ‘Climate Change’ series. This was a regular feature that ran for a week on the Ten O’ Clock news in early December. The Micro satellite uplink was so light that Sherpa’s were able to carry the satellite uplink up the mountain. The antenna was flown to Afghanistan as standard airline baggage and is now being used to transmit live pictures from there.

IVCA Award Win

SIS LIVE and BBC Blast won an IVCA Award in the Learning Experience Award category. SIS LIVE supply BBC Blast with mobile production units and a SISCaster vehicle for the educational ‘Blast’ road-shows held throughout the UK.

RTS Craft and Design Award

24th November 2009

The SIS LIVE sound team were honoured with a Royal Television Society Craft and Design Award at the RTS awards ceremony. Andy Payne and his team won the Best Sound, Entertainment and Non Drama category for work on the MGM Prom for BBC Classical Music. SIS LIVE provided the television coverage for the entire Proms 2009 season.
