SIS LIVE delivers live internet stream for L’Oreal

On 18th December, SIS LIVE provided uplink and internet streaming facilities for clients L’Oreal for their special Hair Colour Event which was broadcast live at 7.30pm on YouTube in full 1080 and 720 HD.

The show, presented by British TV personality Cherry Healey, featured four female members of the public who had dyed their hair that morning for the first time using L’Oreal’s new Casting Crème Gloss product. In front of an audience of around 50 family and friends they were interviewed about the process before revealing their new colours. There were two L’Oreal experts on hand plus a couple of social media monitors reading and responding to questions sent in by the public via Facebook and Twitter.

This fifty five minute transmission was the first time L’Oreal had ever attempted a live stream to the internet and SIS LIVE handled the entire broadcast process.

The event, staged at 3 Mills Studios in London, was captured using five SIS LIVE HD cameras, with images fed to an outside broadcast unit where the programme was created. From here the main feed was sent (via SIS LIVE installed fibre) to a SIS LIVE HD SNG truck where it was transmitted and downlinked at the SIS LIVE teleport at Milton Keynes. Here the SIS LIVE IP team used their state of the art encoding farm to deliver the streams live directly to the L’Oreal YouTube channel.

Martin Evans, SIS LIVE’s IP sales manager, said “As with any live event we cover, there was particular focus on having redundancy in the encoding platforms to provide high levels of resilience. This was the first occasion that we had delivered a live stream to the brand new Version 2 YouTube platform and we were delighted with the results.”

As an uplink supplier and satellite internet specialist SIS LIVE is unique in being able to deliver this complete package solution to its clients.

The programme was a success, proving that high-quality, multicamera HD productions can be successfully delivered and consumed via the internet, paving the way for non-traditional broadcasters and companies to reach out to their customers via entertaining and innovative live online events.

By the end of the day’s promotion L’Oreal’s overall video views had risen by around 616,000 to well over 21 million.

James Westlake, senior streaming services producer at Dab Hand Productions commented “We were very pleased to have SIS LIVE on board for the live HD stream of the L’Oreal Hair Colour Event. It helped us to simplify and integrate the entire process, from the camera work and audio capture to image mixing, through to satellite transfer, downlinking, encoding and streaming online. We were delighted to have such a professional team with incredible experience across all disciplines. SIS LIVE did an awesome job, and we look forward to working with them again.”
